The Joy of ...............Pain
Published by
Did you ever read that book? Me neither, never saw it on the NY Times best seller list, must have had limited appeal. But, as I sit here pratically motionless, while my calves do some kid of happy dance, I'm thinkin' there's some joy in Mudville today. Ranger Pup popped over at 7:15am, and then again at 8:00am.......with his running shoes. Armed with Shot Bloks and Gatorade (I've noticed some refer to it as Hatorade, is it time to change?), we headed across town. Late start allowed for an extra cup of coffee - well known (and legal) performance enhancer. This allowed me to barely keep up with the Pup as we took off with that "early in the long run" naive bounce in our step (bounce being a relative term). Bike path to Pioneer, to D Street. Coming down the path that starts at the D Street entrance we ran into my old marathon training buddies, Wendy and Deb. We turned around, ran back to D with them and then to Alton Baker, where they headed back to south Eugene. In that 30 minutes, we covered more verbal ground than Pup and I did the rest of the run. Coming back from Owosso we ran for awhile with Tommy's old principal from Briggs. He was recovering from plantar fasciatis. He's 50, has run 25 marathons and this was his first injury. Oh yeah, did I mention he looks like he's 40? We moved on. Home in 3:10, roughly 23 miles, I think the Pup is ready. I'm taking my dancing calves down to Starbucks for a quad. |
